Our name 1342 records refers to each album we commission will feature 13 songs a number that is close to our heart, in numerology, 13 can represent transformation, rebirth, and new beginnings, symbolizing a fresh start after change. The 42 comes from the writings of the author Douglas Adams, In Douglas Adams' "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," the number 42 is famously presented as the "Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything," although the actual question itself remains unknown. This humorous and philosophical concept highlights the idea that while we may seek definitive answers to life's biggest questions, sometimes the answers can be absurd or elusive. The number 42 has since become a cultural symbol representing the mystery of existence, the pursuit of knowledge, and the humorous acknowledgment that some questions may be beyond human comprehension.
Our record company is a family run business founded by friends Steven and Terence, who met whilst working collaboratively on various art and music projects in their hometown of Dunbar, East Lothian.

Music is art and we want to find true artists who create for the love of the artform. It isn't about becoming famous or getting rich, those are by products of the artistic journey that may bless you but shouldn't be at the heart of your desire.
Some of the best art in the world may be found on a bathroom wall somewhere were nobody, except those poor unfortunate fools caught short on a wet Wednesday, may see it. Some of the best music is created at 3am in a flat after a party fuelled with liquor love and set beside a flickering flame.

Our process begins when you send us some of your work. We will check it out and give it a listen. We would encourage only solo singer-songwriters to reach out as this is the music we are set up to support.

If we like your stuff and want to set up a meet we'll arrange this with you either at a gig, or place we can play some tunes. This will help us to get a feel for your creativity.

Sign and Support
Album Deal
When we sign we would set up recording session to record an album, 13 songs. This would then be run on vinyl and launched across digital platforms with promotion via radio and gigs.
